One of my favorites books is Boleros en la Habana from Roberto Ampuero. His subject to write it´s almost the same, police books and mafia.
This book may not be the best book i´ve read in my life, but it became my favorite years ago back in to school, and the great thing about it it´s the easy to imagine everything that happens while you are reading it. It is a easy and fun book . When i had to read it, my first impression was that, i may not like it because my last book back then it was Sidartha drom H. Hesse wich was the complete opposite of Boleros en la Habana, it was a lot harder to finish and to read, i really liked that book too, but the subject was a lot more psicologic. Boleros en la Habana´s subject it´s a police book, with investigation and mafia, that kinda things hat i´m not used to read, but it´s treated in a way that comes far from Sherlok Holmes. It´s a topic treated as something common, easy to imagine, really urban and typical from anywhere, so it´s pretty funny to realize that those persons exists everywhere but it´s just we dont notice them until we see them reflect in a person from a book. The persecution, the cops, the mafia it just makes it really fun.
I´m not going to tell the whole story because i dont want to ruin your reading if you deside to read it some time.
I´m just a not a everyday reader except of stuff involved wih the architecture, but i dont have the habbit of a night time for reading and i think it´s because besides the lack of time, i´m just a visual person, so that´s why it´s so imporant for me a book that i can see it in my head while i´m reading. And Roberto Ampuero´s books makes my job easier.
